hydrohotel.net - a Richard Price webspace

poet

This is the site of the poet Richard Price. As well as writing poetry and fiction he is Head of Contemporary British Collections at the British Library and he teaches at the Poetry School. His poetry includes the award-winning Small World, while a selection of his essays on poetry, underground presses, and artist's books is collected in Is This A Poem?. He is the lyricist and lead vocalist for the band The Loss Adjustors, whose album is The World Brims.

Late Gifts

Late Gifts is the new collection with poems which take off in all directions from the 'gift' of a son to the author in late middle age. Here are keen observations of contemporary life from the dual perspectives of child and father, elegies, nursery rhymes, praise poems, and satire. It's a collection bursting with life renewed -- and a global sense of urgency when the 'eco' crisis is as much about greedy economics as ecology.

Tinderness

Out now: Tinderness: words by Richard Price, images by Simon Lewandowski. A group of texts and photographs which evoke the world of dating app encounters. Poems and mesmeric full-colour photographs are snapshots of contemporary life, telling their stories with an approach that is somehow quizzical, sensitive, and revelatory all at the same time.

Moon for Sale

"Richard Price s poetry is inventive, sometimes dazzling, but never merely showy. I first came to Price s poetry with the publication of Lucky Day (2005) and every subsequent book has delivered fresh weather. Moon for Sale appeared in January 2017, and I m still rereading it and finding new pleasures. Price threads the political into the personal when he writes love poetry, and his intensely felt lyricism is sinewy with warning." -- Carol Rumens
